Your questions are SO GOOD. I’m having to look up each area you so kindly linked to in your post to explore my own thoughts on this so I can be more informed in a response, but I immediately thought of Stephen Johnson’s book on where ideas come from and the impact of the introduction of coffee culture in Europe on the intelligentsia at the time, cross-pollinating ideas and knowledge from many different areas of focus so that new ideas could arise, build, evolve, invoke…
